Pardons are religious ceremonies specific to Brittany particularly to the Bigouden region. Every chapel or church is dedicated to a saint whose feast day is celebrated following a traditional calendar. Starting in spring every Sunday sees the celebration of one or more of these pardons. The Penhors chapel has two pardons: the small one celebrated on the second Sunday in July (pardon of Saint Anne) and the large one on the first Sunday of September (nativity of Our Lady).

The pardon attracts crowds and often a fair took place as well, later replaced by a funfair. Thèse illustrations show yesterday’s and today’s pardons.
